Tennessee Wesleyan Upends Tennis on Tuesday

CANTON, Ga. – The Eagles and Bulldogs put on a great performance against one another on Tuesday on the courts of BridgeMill Tennis Club, as nationally-ranked squads on both sides displayed exceptional tennis.
On the men's side, No. 9 Tennessee Wesleyan was able to outlast No. 3 Reinhardt (7-1, 4-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC)) in a monumental battle and hand the hometown squad its first loss of the year, 4-3. The 14th-ranked Bulldogs also came out on top in the women's matchup, 5-2, over the 21st-ranked Eagles (4-5, 3-3 AAC).
The Eagles got the doubles point in the men's competition after the duos of Martin Mendoza/Artem Vasheshnikova (7-6) and Pau Pujadas/Jordi Puig Molina (6-2) came out on top at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Puig Molina would go 2-0 on the day after a 6-2, 6-2 victory on line two, and joining him in the winning column individually was Federico Gomez at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
Tennessee Wesleyan kept the momentum going on the women's side of the net by taking 2-of-3 matchups in doubles play. The pair of Tayla Kruger and Stephanie Fernandez grabbed the positive outcome on line two, 6-0.
Individually, Fernandez was able to come from behind and finish the day 2-0 following her 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 victory in the top spot. Ana Rodriguez also grabbed a point for her team at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 7-5.
The men's team hits the road on Friday at Milligan (Tenn.), while the ladies get right back on the court tomorrow against No. 15 Brenau (Ga.) at 1 p.m.
