Top Teams Clash in North Carolina, Pourchier Gets Victory No. 200

MONTREAT, N.C. – Both the Eagles and the Cavaliers of Montreat were able to grab a victory on the courts Tuesday in North Carolina, as the fifth-ranked Reinhardt men helped head coach Jennifer Pourchier claim her 200th win after taking out the 10th-ranked Cavaliers, 6-1.
The hosts were able to get even with their guests in the women's competition, as Montreat secured a blanking of the Eagles by the count of 7-0.
Doubles play was very exciting on the men's side, and the duo of Martin Mendoza and Artem Vasheshnikova took line one 7-6 (11-9). The Eagles would secure the doubles point after Pau Pujadas and Federico Gomez were also victorious with a 7-6 (7-5) outcome.
Mendoza and Vasheshnikova (3-6, 7-5, 6-4) won at top and third singles, respectively, while Jordi Puig Molina won No. 2 singles with a 7-6, 6-3. Not to be outdone, lines five and six both watched Reinhardt players come out on top as well – Gomez (6-2, 6-2) and Pujadas (6-2, 6-3).
No. 9 Montreat got its revenge on the women's side of the net after not allowing a single match to go the way of the Eagles. The Cavaliers would roll to a one-point advantage after the doubles outings, and Stephanie Fernandez and Tayla Kruger put up the best fight at 6-4 in a line two defeat.
The hosts from North Carolina would then flex its muscles in singles action and claim six more points to earn the shutout.
The top-ranked Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett await Reinhardt on Thursday at 2 p.m.
