CANTON, Ga. – Both the tennis teams were in action Friday in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play, as the fifth-ranked men took down No. 16 Union (Ky.), 6-1, and then the 11th-ranked Bulldogs earned the split on the women's side with a 5-2 decision.
The Eagles improved to 4-0 (1-0 AAC) on the men's side, while the women fell to 2-3 and 1-1 in league action.
The men were able to grab the doubles point after lines one (Sam Alexander/Jordi Puig Molina) and three (Martin Mendoza/Masumi Komada) were both victorious at 6-2 and 6-3, respectively.
Union was able to get on the board with a singles victory at No. 4, but it watched as Reinhardt closed out the match with four-straight positive outcomes. Pau Pujadas grabbed a 6-2, 6-4 win in the six spot, and then he was followed up by Alexander's come-from-behind 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win on line five.
Also triumphant was Puig Molina (7-6, 6-4), Mendoza (2-6, 7-5, 10-3) and Komada (7-5, 6-7, 10-8).
The Bulldogs bit back on the women's side en route to a 1-1 day between the two schools after taking down Reinhardt by three tallies. Union was this time able to jump in front, 1-0, after earning a point in doubles play with wins at lines one and two.
Stephanie Fernandez and Tayla Kruger took No. 3 doubles with a 6-1 outcome.
In singles competition, the Bulldogs were able to take care of business the rest of the way to head home with an AAC win in-hand. The Eagles were able to grab a pair of wins on lines three and five, however, as Glauka Carvajal (2-6, 7-5, 10-7) and Kruger (6-3, 6-2) left the day feeling good.
Next on the schedule is a road trip to Montreat (N.C.) on March 23 at Noon.
