Waleska, GA—In an intense AAC matchup at Ken White Field, Reinhardt Men's Soccer played to a 1-1 draw against the Bluefield Rams. The Eagles controlled most of the game holding the 1-0 advantage until the final moments of the game.
The match opened with promising momentum for Reinhardt as Evan DeYou notched the first goal at 22:52, sending cheers across the home crowd. Despite the Eagles' numerous attempts to consolidate their lead, Bluefield countered effectively late in the second half with Juan Soto leveling the score with about five minutes left in the game. Even after Bluefield scored, Reinhardt still had point-blank-range shots in the last minutes of the game, but nothing could find the back of the net.
Goalkeeping played a pivotal role with Aiden Tapia-Trejo for Reinhardt. Trejo ended the night with four saves from five shots on goal by the Rams. Bluefield's keeper was able to save eleven shots from twelve on target by the Eagles. This was a glaring stat in the game showing how much pressure Reinhardt's offense put on the Rams, but they came up empty. In total, the Eagles had eighteen shots at goal.
Despite the draw, the young Eagles keep making strides and show signs of what the future can look once the freshmen turn into sophomores. The Eagles now look forward to their next fixture against Tennessee Wesleyan on October 23, 2024, in Athens, TN, holding a record that now stands at 4 wins, 7 losses, and 4 draws for the season. This upcoming game remains a crucial one for Reinhardt as they try to move into AAC postseason play. The draw against Bluefield made things slightly more difficult and made the final two games almost must-win situations.
