Pikeville, KY - In a midweek AAC battle, RU Men's Soccer faced a challenging setback against the UPike Bears, ending the game with a score of 4-2 in UPike's favor. The Eagles have had a rough October with four losses and one tie, however, they still have three games remaining, which could move them up in the standings. Right now, they sit in the ninth position, but they have control of their outcome.
The match began unfavorably for Reinhardt as the Bears surged forward with three quick goals in the first half. Three separate Bulldogs scored in the first half cementing a 3-1 lead at halftime, despite Weyman Mabuya's goal for the Eagles at 21:36, which briefly fueled hope for the Eagles.
In the second half, the Eagles showcased renewed vigor with Chandler Ramaline scoring midway through the second half bringing the deficit to just two goals. This momentarily narrowed the gap before the Bears scored their fourth goal of the game, finalizing the score at 4-2. The match saw a slew of shots with notable attempts from Luke McLaren and Hayden Adams, but it was not enough to get the Eagles back in the game.
A bright spot was the work of backup goalkeeper Aiden Tapia-Trejo who had 5 saves from 6 shots on goal. Hildago came in early in the second half to get valuable time on the field.
With this result, Reinhardt's current season tally stands at 4-7-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the conference. The Eagles will have a chance to get back on the winning track this weekend as the Rams of Bluefield visit Ken White Field. Bluefield will be followed by a road game at Tennessee Wesleyan and then Union at home. Union and Tennessee Wesleyan currently sit in front of the Eagles in the standings so it is a great chance to make a statement going into the AAC postseason.
