RU MSOC Comes Up Short 1-0 Against Bryan College in AAC Match-Up
Waleska, Ga - Reinhardt comes into this game on a winning streak with no intentions of slowing down against the Lions who have historically been a challenging matchup for the Eagles. Head coach, Frankie Ruiz, lost to Bryan in his first-ever fixture against them last year, but with over 25 new recruits this rejuvenated Reinhardt team will look to write a new story.
The game would go blow for blow in the opening 10 minutes with neither team able to separate themselves from the rest, but the story would take its first turn from a set piece. After rattling around in the box, Bryan would score from a header within 3 yards of the goal. This left Bryan inspired as they began to move the ball and establish a sense of ownership over the game, Reinhardt would need something special in order to shift the momentum back in their favor. Unfortunately, though moments of great play would come, the goal would continue to elude Reinhardt. Meanwhile, Bryan would capitalize on counterattacks and would get one past goalie, Allan Tercjak only for Reinhardt captain, Ivan Patta, to block it off of his line. Nearly a 2-0 game. The rest of the half would be uneventful as Reinhardt headed into the locker room, still searching for the difference maker.
Reinlights of the first half:
Reinhardt comes out to the second half ready to scrape and claw their way out of the deficit. Allan Tercjak set the tone with a wonderful save straight into his hands and a roar of encouragement for his team to push forward. After that, Reinhardt would put the pressure on with Luke and Eber controlling the midfield and Christain Gonzalez feeding the ball forward from the leftback position into dangerous channels.
Halfway through the second half and both sides would struggle to gain control as the ball switched possesion constantly with neither team being able to create any clear cut chances. The rare chances for Reinhardt came when Reinhardt would skip their midfield and find their striker who could play it back into his midfielders in open space. Otherwise Bryan did well to control the individual runs. In the last four minutes, a beautiful long throw found its way to Ivan Patta, alone at the edge of the six, but his header would fly just over the bar. A light of hope in the dying embers of the game. Bryan ultimately won 1-0 over the Eagles.
The Eagles are now 1-1 in conference play and are 2-3-1 overall. Up next, the Eagles will be playing away at Columbia International this upcoming Saturday, September 14th, at 1pm.
