Waleska, GA- The Reinhardt men's soccer team earned the 2-1 win over DII opponents, the Shorter University Hawks, on Saturday night at home.
The game was off to a cracking start with a shot from Weyman Mabuya destined for the top drawer but tipped over the bar by Shorter's goalie, Rasmussen Berg. The Eagles would continue to pepper Shorter's goal until Christain Fowler would finally break the deadlock with a delicate finish into the bottom corner with 14 minutes left on the clock.. The Eagles were not without their troubles as Shorter would hit the crossbar of a cross and force a couple of fantastic saves by Freshman, Allan Tercjak before the end of the half. The Eagles ended the first half with hope in the air and potential in their midst.
Reinlights:
● A wonder-ball from Edson Escobar to set up a one-on-one opportunity.
● Christain Fowler's composure in the final third.
Reinhardt came out into the second half in their traditional 4–3-3 with John Simmons, Evan Deyou, and Hayden Adams as the only changes. The Eagles found it a bit difficult to find their rhythm in the opening 10 minutes. But when the rhythm was found, it was bachata, as Eber Sosa weaved through the Shorter defense with a clever 1,2 carrying it the rest of the way and into the back of the net with 20 minutes left. The next big chance would come from a whirling strike by Evan Deyou from outside the box, but the Shorter goalie would tip it out.
Reinlights:
● Eber Sosa finding his groove as the midfield maestro.
● Evan Deyou's first touch and hold-up play.
● Ivan Patta's defensive awareness.
Up next for Eagles, will be thier conference opener next Saturday, September 7th. The Eagles will be playing the St. Andrews Knights at home at 3pm.
