Eagles Earn their 4th Conference Win Against KCU
Waleksa, GA - Reinhardt Men's Soccer was able to get their fourth AAC win of the season on Saturday afternoon at Ken White Field in a lopsided game versus Kentucky Christian. The Eagles were able to get six goals with the help of Ovie Egberie who scored two goals in the second half of the game.
The Eagles went on to win 6-2 against the Knights of KCU, which currently has them fifth in the standings.
Maxine Correia got the Eagles going in the first half at 12 minutes into the game with a goal from an assist by Jacob Grimmer. Correia now has 3 goals which catches current leader Rafael Pais.
Moments later, Correia's corner kick in the 18th minute of the game found the head of a KCU Knight which ricoched into the back of the Knight's goal putting the Eagles up 2-1 (own goal).
Senior Carlos Ayala-Viera was able to find the back of the net next on an unassisted banger giving the Eagles a 3-1 advantage and the game began to loosen up some from here. Jiovanni Cruz scored next from a set-piece opportunity on the right side of the field about 25 yards out. Cruz's goal gave him three goals on the season tying him for the team lead with Correia and Pais.
Coach Frankie Ruiz was able to start giving time to many players at this point and many were able to get significant minutes in the game.
Starting Goal Keeper Elijah Clark was able to rest the entire second half. Carlos Guerrero and Garrett Ellis both came into the game to finish things up for Clark. Gurrero played the last part of the first half and played the early section of the second half. Ellis came in to play the final twenty-five minutes of the game where he was able to record a save and did not allow any goals. The knights were only able to get 4 shots against the Eagles with only three being on target.
It was a good conference win for the Eagles and the whole team was able to get time on the field which can only help the team down the line. Reinhardt will have an AAC schedule the rest of the way and a chance to move up in the standings because they still have games with Tennessee Wesleyan, Milligan, and Union - all of which are in front of the Eagles. Milligan will be the next team to play Reinhardt next Saturday evening at Ken White Field. It will be a full day on the turf field as we will have the Reinhardt versus Pikeville football game at 1:30 pm followed by the Reinhardt Women's Soccer at 5 pm versus Milligan and the nightcap will be the men's game at 7:15.
