Eagles Pick Up Road Win At Montreat
Montreat, NC - Coming off a great week of knocking off two NAIA Top 25 opponents, Reinhardt Men's Soccer got back in action for a midweek AAC road game at Montreat.
The Eagles continued their current successes by taking down the Cavaliers, 2-1, and coming from behind to get the win. Two freshmen step up to score for the Eagles and the backline of the Eagles continue to step up for Coach Frankie Ruiz by shutting down their opponents.
Jiovanni Cruz picked up his second goal of the season after getting his first one last Wednesday versus Columbia International. Cruz's goal came in the second half in the 57th minute from an assist from Maxime Correia. Correia is not only a goal scorer for the Eagles, but he also sets up his teammates as well from his center midfield position.
Jacob Grimmer would come off the bench in the second half to put away the game-winner in the 77th minute on an assist that was awarded to Benja Elgueta & Brady Craig. This was Grimmer's second goal of the season and his college career.
Montreat would strike first at the end of the first half so the Eagles had to switch things up at the half in order to create more changes on goal and shut down the attack of the Cavaliers. Coach Ruiz gives his "Man of the Match" nod to center-back Ivan Patta who was a force on the backline shutting down numerous attacks from a talented frontline of the Cavaliers. Patta had one of his normal games where he was rock on the backline for the Eagles. The backline is always solid for Reinhardt and each week someone steps up to lead the defense for the Eagles.
Each AAC win is very important for the Eagles as the conference standings determine how the AAC Tournament bracket is set up. Reinhardt currently sits at the #6 position in the standings, but there is still a lot of season left to play. The Eagles still have to face three of the top five teams in the AAC, which can shake things up in the standings once they meet.
Next up for the Eagles is a home game this Saturday - noon kick-off versus Kentucky Christian.
