Eagles Pick Up First Win of the Season at Piedmont
Demorest, GA - The Reinhardt Eagles were coming into tonight's game looking for their first win of this young season. The first two opponents were very talented, skilled, and fast - but the Eagles hung with them just coming up short in each game. Tonight's opponent was NCAA Division III Piedmont College and they were coming into the game looking for their first win as well. The Lions had one tie and one loss on the season.
First Half:
The Eagles came out dominating possession in this game and controlled the ball most of the first half. Their first goal would come in the sixteenth minute when forward, Carlos Ayala-Viera, would put one in the back of the net. Ayala-Viera was assisted by Aramis Rohner. The second goal would not come until almost the end of the first half when several passes from the left side of the field made it over to a waiting Aramis Rohner who put a few moves on a few Lion defenders and hit the opposite side of the goal just past Piedmont's keeper. A deflection off a defender helped sneak this one past the keeper.
The Eagles would take a commanding 2-0 lead into halftime.
Second Half:
Most of the action in the second half would come early. Piedmont would catch the Eagles sleeping a little and this would be one of the few moments in the game when Reinhardt did not have control of the game. The Lions would score in the fifty-second minute bringing Piedmont right back into the game. The moment shift to Piedmont would not last long as Anthony Robledo would score just over a minute later. After goals are scored is some of the most dangerous times in the game of soccer and the Eagles made the most of it to get their two-point lead back.
The remainder of the game would see the Eagles control things and have several more opportunities that just narrowly missed. These are goals that they will have to have as the season progresses and the opponents become a little harder.
It was a good victory for Reinhardt who had played well in their previous two games, however, could not get the one goal in each game that would keep them in the games. The Eagles should be able to build off this victory and take it into conference play where they are predicted to finish in second place.
Reinhardt will get their first chance to start this process on Saturday when Bluefield visits Waleska, GA at 3:15 pm. This will be the Eagles' first conference game of the season.
