MARIETTA, Ga. – Men's soccer went on the road and came away with a season-opening 3-2 victory at Life (Ga.) on Wednesday after big nights from Philip Frowis and Pavel Dashin.
The dynamic duo was heard from early and often in the positive outcome after their fingerprints were all over the triumph over the Running Eagles.
With the match still scoreless in the second half, Trevor Robinson found Frowis for the first score in the initial minutes of play in the period. Frowis, accompanied by Gus Fidler, teamed up for a double assist as Pavel Dashin found the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.
The scoring spree continued a few minutes later as Dashin earned another tally – this time from just Frowis – to move the scoreboard to 3-0.
The Running Eagles wouldn't go away, however, as they went on to score a pair of goals to get the contest to 3-2 before time ran out.
"First, I would like to credit our opponents on a hard-fought battle today," head coach Joey Johnson said. "The tactical, physical and mental challenges present in the match against a talented and organized Life side are very beneficial in a season opener to help us develop and improve as a team.
I appreciate the spirit of our group of men as they have not run from adversity in recent weeks; but rather they have embraced the challenges that are beyond our control with a positive perspective, commitment to each other and a consistent work ethic."
Niko Tzevelekos got the victory after making 13 saves in 90 minutes of action.
Stay tuned for additional analysis once stats are finalized.
The team looks to make it two wins in-a-row on Saturday afternoon at 6 p.m. against NCAA Division II Southern Wesleyan.
