#1 Eagles Make Quick Work of TN Wesleyan at Home
Waleska, GA - #1 Ranked RU Men's Lacrosse notched another AAC win on Saturday, 25-2, over the Bulldogs of TN Wesleyan! The Eagles stay undefeated at 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the AAC. They have two games remaining with Cumberlands (ranked #5) and Point University before the AAC Tournament starts on April 20th.
Reinhardt was quick out of the gate against Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon scoring 8 goals in the first quarter. Brady Hanak got the goals going for the Eagles as he often does and recorded 5 total in the first quarter. He ended up with 6 total in the game. JR Sess, Wyatt Maddox, and Benji Shackleford were the others to get on the board in the first quarter. Sess ended the day with 5 goals to follow Hanak. Shackleford had 4 total and Maddox had 3 goals in the game.
The second quarter was a little tight for the Eagles as they would give up 2 goals and only score 3 against the Bulldogs. They took an 11 to 2 halftime lead Cameron Cochran got one of his 2 goals in the second quarter along with Sess and Maddox. The two goals were scored by starting goalkeeper, Liam Wright, but that is all that would be scored by the Eagles in the game. Wright ended the day with 13 saves on 15 shots from Tennessee Wesleyan.
The third quarter was the back-breaker for the Bulldogs as the Eagles poured on 10 to take the game out of reach. Kolin Etheredge, Ethan Lux, Stefan Duckett, Tyrique Robinson, and Carter Maurice added their names to the scoring column in the third quarter to help the Eagles pull away.
Duckett led the Eagles in ground balls with 14 total in the game in the faceoff position. He has led the Eagles all season in this category.
With five minutes left in the third quarter, Coach Yelkin substituted the backup keeper, Michael Scoleri, in goal for the remainder of the game. He was able to save 3 shots from the 3 shots on goal. The Eagles finished out the game by scoring 4 goals in the fourth quarter securing their spot at the top of the standings in both the AAC and the NAIA.
The Eagles will have this week off from games. The scheduled game with St. Andrews that was to take place on March 30th has been put in the books as a 1-0 forfeit by the Knights. The next game will be against the #5 Patriots of Cumberlands which will be played at Ken White Field on April 6th at 7 pm. This will be the toughest game left for the Eagles before they can start focusing on the postseason and reclaiming the NAIA Championship trophy.
