Eagles Take Down #1 Ranked Keiser on the Road
West Palm Beach, FL - Reinhardt Men's Lacrosse moved one step closer to taking back their spot as the kings of NAIA men's lacrosse by knocking off the 2023 NAIA National Champion - Keiser Seahawks with the score of 19 to 15. The Eagles are on an important conference road trip in Florida where they face (currently ranked) #1 Keiser and #2 Webber (on Saturday). Not only can they make their way to the #1 spot in the AAC, but they can make their way back to the #1 spot in the NAIA with a successful road trip. Half of that battle is already out of the way and they will try to finish it on Saturday at Webber.
In Thursday's game, Carter Maurice made his appearance after being out a few games and he did it in style by scoring 7 goals and leading the way for the Eagles in scoring. Reinhardt has been able to score with any team they have played this season, but having another weapon in Maurice should help them be unbeatable.
JR Sess, who had been in the top Eagles in scoring this season, continued against the Seahawks by scoring 4 goals. He also had 2 assists and 12 ground balls. He led the Eagles in ground balls for this game. Wyatt Maddox and Cameron Cochran both had 3 goals each to help the Eagles win.
Defensively, the Eagles were able to keep the high-scoring Seahawks to 15 goals. Liam Wright played the entire game in goal and he was able to save 12 shots from 27 total taken by Kesier.
Kollin Etheredge had 3 caused turnovers on the backline of the Eagles and he was joined by Jason Marx and Dillon Shackleford with 2 caused turnovers each. Etheredge and Shackleford both had 3 ground balls as well.
The Eagles won both the first and fourth quarters in the game which made the difference in the final outcome. They ended the first quarter with a 6-4 advantage and the fourth quarter with a 5-3 advantage. The second and third quarters were draws by the two teams (5-5/3-3).
This was a big statement to the rest of the NAIA on where the Eagles are now, but they will have to continue to prove themselves this Saturday with Webber and when they start conference play. Cumberlands is the game to watch in the final stretch of the season, but you cannot overlook other teams like Tennessee Wesleyan and Montreat.
