Eagles Win Big on the Road at Montreat
Montreat, NC - The Eagles did everything they needed to do in this AAC game with the Cavaliers of Montreat. Often a team can slip up on games that they should win when they are looking ahead at anticipated games. Reinhardt will have arguably their toughest game of the regular season next Friday afternoon when they take on the current NAIA #1, Keiser University, at Ken White Field, however, they still had business to take care of with Montreat before moving on. The Eagles did just that as they would win easily 24-2 to set the stage for next Friday afternoon.
The Eagles would score the first fourteen goals of the game before Montreat would get on the board. They scored 8 goals in the first quarter and 5 more in the second to take the 13-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Eagles put 11 more on the board.
Ethan Lux would get the first goal for the Eagles to start the game followed by Wyatt Maddox and Benji Shackleford, but it would be Cameron Cochran and Brady Hanak that would steal the show in the goal-scoring department. Cochran had solid numbers with 6 goals scored from 8 shots. He also dished out 9 assists and 3 ground balls. Hanak would be just behind him with 5 goals scored from 11 shots and he had 6 ground balls as well. Maddox would be just behind Cochran and Hanak with 3 goals and Lux and JR Sess had 2 goals each. There were several Eagles with single goals scored.
Liam Wright got the win in goal with 5 saves on 7 shots from the Cavaliers and he also had 7 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers. Ezequel Ceant led the way in face-offs winning 22 out of 29 attempts and he had 20 ground balls in the process.
The win puts the two top teams in the AAC ready to battle for the top spot next Friday afternoon. The AAC is very competitive with #1 Keiser and #3 Reinhardt in the top two spots followed by #5 Webber International, Tennessee Wesleyan, and #4Cumberlands. Tennessee Wesleyan is the only team not currently in the NAIA Top 10, but they are just sitting outside in the 14th position. The Keiser game is scheduled for 3 pm next Friday and after this - the Eagles will have one remaining game at Point University before getting ready for the AAC playoffs which will be the last two weeks of April.
