Eagles Take Care of Business at Tennessee Wesleyan
Athens, TN - Men's Lacrosse continued their run in the AAC by topping Tennessee Wesleyan 18-9 as they set themselves up for the anticipated matchup with current #1, Keiser University. The Eagles are set to defend their 2022 AAC and National Championship and the Keiser game will be a good test to see where they stand with one of the NAIA's top teams.
The one thing the Eagles cannot do is overlook teams like Tennessee Wesleyan who have the ability to upset a team that is not focused on the task at hand. The Eagles made sure they did not let this happen as they would get out in front of the Bulldogs early and keep adding goals to the end.
Tennessee Wesleyan started the game by keeping pace with the Eagles. Reinhardt would only have a 3 to 2 lead after the first quarter. Wyatt Maddox would score the first goal of the game and it was one of his 3 goals in the game. Brady Hanak and JR Sess would get the other two goals in the first to help the Eagles stay in front.
The second quarter would see the Eagles turn things up a little and they would break out on a 5-0 run over the bulldogs extending the lead to 8 to 2. Liam Wright and the defense would hold strong in the second quarter, which allowed Hanak, Sess, and company to extend the lead. Wright ended the game with 10 saves from 19 shots on goal.
In the second half, the Eagles would continue to be able to score on the Bulldogs, however, they did give up seven goals. Reinhardt led 14-6 after the third and they finished out by scoring 4 to Tennessee Wesleyan's 3 in the fourth.
Sess and Hanak would lead the Eagles in scoring with 4 goals each. Maddox would be just behind them with three goals and Cameron Cochran, Carter Maurice, and Benji Shackleford each had 2 goals. Eqequel Ceant led the Eagles with 11 ground balls from his work at the face-offs.
The Eagles will take on Montreat this Saturday on the road in North Carolina and the matchup with Kesier on Friday, April 8th. They will have one road game with Point before getting ready for the AAC Tournament coming up towards the end of April.
