Eagles Get Impressive Win on the Road at Cumberlands
Williamsburg, KY - Reinhardt Men's Lacrosse is playing a very impressive schedule facing most of the top-ranked teams in the country. Saturday's match was no different as the Eagles were on the road playing the #4 ranked University of the Cumberlands at their place. The fans in attendance and viewing online could not have asked for a better game as both teams put on a show. The game was an overtime nail-biter where the Eagles got the final goal winning 12-11.
The Eagles managed to keep the slight one-goal lead in the first quarter and going into the half. They led 4 to 3 at the end of one and going into the halftime break, they had a narrow 6-5 lead. The Patriots were able to get the lead back in the third going up 9 to 8, which set up the thrilling fourth quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, Brady Hanak was able to find the back of the net getting the game tied 9-9. Cameron Cochran and Ethan Lux both scored minutes later getting the Eagles with the largest lead of the game at 11 to 9, but the Patriots would storm back in the final minutes to tie the game at 11 all. The final goal by Cumberlands came with just twenty-seven seconds left in the game. The Eagles were able to get a timeout and set up a final play where they did get a good shot off, but the Cumberlands goalkeeper made a good save sending the game into overtime.
With just under two minutes into the five-minute overtime, Cochran was able to find the back of the net once more ending the game with the golden goal. The Eagles would walk away with an impressive win on the road against a team that they will most likely face again in the AAC Tournament and maybe at Nationals as well.
Cameron Cochran would lead the Eagles with 5 goals and 5 assists. Brady Hanak would end up with 3 goals and JR Sess added 2. Ezequel Ceant led the Eagles with 8 ground balls. Cochran and Jacob Pinson added 6 ground balls as well.
In goal, Liam Wright had 11 saves from 22 shots on goal.
The Eagles will have two more road games with AAC games at Tennessee Wesleyan and Montreat before coming home to face currently ranked #1 Keiser University at Ken White Field on April 18th. The Eagles will end the season at Point after that before getting ready for the AAC Tournament in late April.
