#5 Eagles Take Out #7 Aquinas in Second Half Rout
Waleska, GA - The Eagles are trying to work their way up the national polls after dropping the game to Indiana Tech a few weekends ago. The loss moved the Eagles back to fifth place overall so making statements by beating highly-ranked teams is the best way to let everyone know who you are. This team is a different team than last year's National Champion team and they are creating their own identity. It is a good mix of experienced veterans and hungry new guys looking to extend the winning tradition that Reinhardt Lacrosse has developed.
One of those players is Carter Maurice. Maurice was able to find the back of the next eight times today making sure the Eagles got the win. His 8 goals tied what Aquinas was able to put on the board in the entire game. Brady Hanak and JR Sess helped out Maurice in the scoring department by scoring 4 and 2 goals respectively. Ethan Lux, Rett Canon, and Reece Dotterer added the remaining three goals with each scoring one goal.
Just as amazing as Carter Marice's goal output, the same can be said about Cameron Cochran's assists total. Cochran had ten assists in this game giving him 32 total for the season which leads the Eagles. Cochran also leads the Eagles in scoring with 26 goals closely followed by Hanak with 24 and Maurice with 22.
Defensively, Liam Wright would have 15 saves in goals from 23 shots on goal from Aquinas. Jacob Pinson had 3 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers to help the Eagles defensively. Ezequiel Ceant led the Eagles with 9 ground balls from his face-offs.
The first half was a tight game with the teams trading goals for the first part. The Eagles were able to pull away slightly going up by two goals going into the halftime break. The third and fourth quarter is where the Eagles would lockdown Aquinas and turn the heat up on the offensive end. The Eagles outscored Aquinas 4 goals to 2 in the third and 6 to 1 in the fourth. This made all the difference in the game and gave the Eagles their eighth win of the season. The final score was Eagles 17 and Aquinas 8.
The Eagles have five more games in their regular season with four of the games being AAC games and the other is a matchup with the current #1 team - Kaiser University. First, will be a road game with Cumberlands on Saturday, March 25th.
