Burkesville, KY - For the second time in the week, Ken White Field had a playoff atmosphere game being played. The week started out with top-ranked women's lacrosse teams, Reinhardt and Keiser, playing each other. On Friday, it was the Eagles Men's Lacrosse team that would be in the spotlight with a match-up of two top-five teams. Cumberlands of Kentucky was coming to Waleska for this Friday night conference match-up. There was a lot of excitement and energy with both the players on the field and the fans and parents in the stands. This could very well be a preview of what we might see in a few weeks when the conference tournament rolls around.
Cumberlands would actually score the first two goals of the game and they would really control the game and possession for most of the first half. The Eagles would finally get on the board around the five-minute mark when Cameron Cochran connected with a hard shot to get his first goal of the game. It would be the first of 4 total goals in the game. Cochran would score the next goal in the second quarter, which this time he was assisted by Dillan Bousquet. Titus Thind would then score the Eagles' third goal of the game and this would be their final goal of the first half. The Eagles would go into halftime with a small deficit to overcome. The score had the Patriots of Cumberlands at 5 and the Eagles at 3 goals. It was not the best start for the Eagles, however, they were still in striking distance and you know Reinhardt would use the second half to make a comeback.
In the second half, the Eagles would pick up their defensive intensity. The Eagles would only give up three runs in the entire second half, but they needed to score often so they could get back to even and possibly pull ahead. Stefan Duckett and Brady Hanak would both have single goals to help the Eagles. Cochran would connect for two more goals - with one in the third and one in the fourth
The highlighted player of the game would be Titus Thind who would get his final two goals in the final five minutes of the game. The first goal in this set would come with about four minutes left and this would be the shot that tied the game at 8 goals each. Tyler Wilkinson assisted on this goal for Thind. With the score tied and the fans on the edge of their seats, the final minutes were dripping off the clock. Both teams were making aggressive plays in order for their teams to possibly get the last shot in and avoid going to overtime. With just under two minutes left in the game, Dylan Bousquet would make a run on the backside of the goal and find the #22 of Titus Thind and without hesitation- the ball quickly bounce from Bousquet to Thind and right into the goal. The game would end with the Eagles winning a highly competitive and fast-paced game by two heavyweights in the NAIA, 9-8.
The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday late afternoon with a home game with another top-level team, Tennessee Wesleyan. This will be the Eagles' senior night so come out and support this talented and very competitive team before they head to the AAC Tournament and beyond.
