Eagles Finish Second at AAC Fall Preview
Adarisville, GA - RU Men's Golf put everything together that they learned throughout the fall golf season, which culminated in a second-place finish at the AAC Fall Preview Tournament. The tournament was held at Barnsley Gardens Resort, which has become a home course to the AAC Championships each semester. It's not a home course for the Eagles, however, they play there often and know the ins and outs of the course.
Reinhardt's second-place finish just behind SCAD Atlanta was their highest finish this season, and it was a very impressive outcome, knocking out some very talented teams like Tennesee Wesleyan, Milligan, and Truett McConnell to name a few. This was a great note to end on for the team and adds a boost going into the spring season which will start late January or early February.
Freshman Trey Schmidt was the top finisher for the Eagles placing third overall in a group of 90 AAC golfers. Schmidt has been a constant in the starting group for Coach Evans this fall and is proving to be a future start with this young talented group. He shot eight over par for the three rounds. His first round was 75, his second round was 73, and the last round was 76. This was good enough to get him the third spot behind two other excellent golfers.
Coming in second for the Eagles was sophomore Zane May, who has been a top golfer for the team this fall. He finished tied in fifth position, shooting thirteen over par in his three rounds. His three rounds were 76, 78, and 75. Followed close behind was fellow sophomore MJ Hodge, who was fifteen over par in the three rounds. He had one of the best rounds for the Eagles, shooting a 70 in his first round. His next rounds were 78 and 83, giving him the twelfth place overall.
Overall, the Eagles had four golfers in the top twenty, and all were in the top half of the field. Eli Howren finished fourteenth overall, shooting eighteen over par in his three rounds. His first round caused him a probable top-ten finish. He shot an 82, 72, and 79 in his three rounds. His 72 score was the second-best round of the day for the Eagles.
Finishing out the group was Pride Dyer in twenty-ninth place, shooting twenty-fifth position with a score of 84, 77, and 80 in his three rounds. Tyler Frazee shot twenty-seven over par and finished in thirty-six position. Freshman Robbie McMillan finished out the group, placing in forty-first place with a twenty-nine over par.
Coach Evans' group is a young squad, but they continue to make impressive leaps in tournaments. If this group of freshmen and sophomores stay together - the next two years of Reinhardt Golf will be something to watch.
