Eagles Open Up 2023 Fall Season with Tournament Win!

Linett, AL - The NAIA Fall Golf Season got underway this past weekend and the Eagles were in action at the Point Invitational hosted by Point University.

The Men's Team had an outstanding tournament led by veteran golfer, Dylan Long, who was the runner-up shooting a 136 total in the 36-hole/two-day event.  He shot an amazing four-under par on both days (68/68). His efforts along with the help of Chanc Willis, Mark Hodge, Pride Dryer, and Dalton Henson gave the Eagles the First Place trophy for the tournament. Reinhardt won with a 562 total!

Willis was second for the Eagles shooting a 140 total followed by Hodge at 144, Dryer at 146, and Henson at 149.  If the Eagles are able to keep this up through the fall and the spring, they could definitely raise the AAC Championship Trophy just as they did in the 2021-22 collegiate season.

The team has a much different look with two freshmen in the mix (Hodge & Dryer) to go along with veteran Eagles - Long, Willis, and Henson. 

The Women's Team had success as well at the tournament with Elizabeth Hamilton finishing tied for 3rd place overall with a total of 158.  Hamilton shot a 76 and 82 respectively to earn her 3rd place position.  She was followed closely by Caroline Goddard who ended up with a 167 two-day total and Maggie Mullins with a 168.  Debbie Blount had a good two days shooting a 172 total and Alaina Harris rounded out the Eagles' scoring at 210.

Both teams had a great showing for the first tournament of the 2023-24 season and both teams are combined with youth and experienced veteran golfers, which should bold well for Coach Evans Nichols in the official NAIA Spring Golf season and going forward.
