GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Rain forced the Golden Tigers Spring Invite to be cut short after just one round after play was canceled on Tuesday, but the Eagles had some impressive cards on day one, led by Christopher Whitney earning an all-tournament mention (T4) following his opening round of 75 (+3).
The 18th-ranked men's team finished in the middle of the pack in fifth place out of nine teams with a 316 (+28). The Reinhardt ladies also finished in fifth after the one-day event out of eight competing groups (+72; 360), with all five golfers placing within the top 40.
Hunter Clay also placed in the top 10 with a 77. Brooks Gineris wasn't far down the line – T18 – two shots back, while both Chanc Willis and Jack Haller finished with a score of 85 (T45).
On the women's side, all five players were pretty well bunched up from the late 20s to mid-30s on the leaderboard. Lauren Welte and Meg McCord paced the play with a pair of 89s, while Debbie Blount (T32) and both Brooke Newsome and Katie Kauffman (T36) rounded out the top five.
The women now look ahead to the TWU Invitational on April 5, while the men will next tee it up on April 19 at the AAC National Qualifier.
