BRUNSWICK, Ga./ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Eagles were back on the golf course Monday and Tuesday in the 10th Annual Coastal Georgia Winter Invite at Brunswick Country Club, and both Reinhardt groups struck the ball well in the first spring tournament of the season.
On the men's side, Christopher Whitney was the lead Eagle in the clubhouse after he finished with a T6 (1-over-par) – five shots back from winner Emile Raath of Faulkner (Ala.). Reinhardt carded a cumulative 597 after two rounds (+21) for fourth place out of 15 teams.
Not far behind Whitney was Hunter Clay, who also ended the tournament with a top-10 placement in a tie for eighth at plus-2. Dalton Henson – who played as an individual – tied for 11th (+3) and Jack Haller grabbed a T18 after two rounds of 75.
Rounding out the top five for the hometown team was Brooks Gineris (T33) and Chanc Willis (T44).
The women were able to complete the two-day event with a sixth-place outing to the tune of 687.
Lauren Welte paced the Reinhardt golfers with an 80 and 87, respectively, for a tie for 23rd. Debbie Blount and Meg McCord both also earned top-30 finishes and were back-to-back on the scoreboard. Not to be outdone, Katie Kauffman (T36) and Brooke Newsome (41st) both got some good swings in for the Eagles at the King and Prince Golf Course
The guys are next on the tee on March 1 at the USCB Sand Shark Invitational, while the women have another week of preparation before the Point Invitational on March 8.
