Eagles Suffer First Loss in February Facing the Union Bulldogs
Waleska, GA - As the season comes to the final stretch, Reinhardt Basketball needs to get every win to keep pace with the conference and maintain their position in the AAC Tournament. The Eagles suffered a setback in Saturday's home game against the Bulldogs of Union Commonwealth, 116-101. Despite the loss, the Eagles are still holding on to one of the tournament spots, but they cannot have anymore losses or the tournament could pass them by this season.
The game began promisingly for the host, Reinhardt, with an exhilarating first half that saw them trailing close behind at 54-60. However, despite consistent efforts and a rally in the second half, the Bulldogs extended their lead, particularly dominating in the final minutes. Union Commonwealth's tactic effectively spoiled what was initially a closely contested game.
Reinhardt University's standout performers included Brasen James, who led the team scoring with 25 points. Notably, Tee Williams and Nate Jones contributed 16 and 12 points, respectively, but couldn't bridge the gap against the Bulldogs' formidable scoring. The Eagles tried to press again, as they did with Johnson earlier in the week. However, the Bulldogs were able to handle the pressure enough to keep their lead. The press did rattle them somewhat, but Union always found a way to make the next big play to keep the Eagles chasing.
Looking ahead, the Reinhardt Eagles are gearing up to recover their streak against Bryan College on Wednesday, which is another important AAC game. With a current record of 10-14 and a conference tally of 7-10, the Eagles are more determined than ever to make a comeback and pivot their season towards more victories.
