Johnson Loss Wraps Up a Tough January for the Eagles
Knoxville, TN - In a challenging AAC showdown, the Reinhardt Eagles fell to the #4 (AAC) Johnson Royals with a final score of 67-89 at the Graham Center in Knoxville on Wednesday evening.
The game started off competitively as Reinhardt University struggled to keep pace, trailing just slightly at halftime with a score of 35-40. Despite spirited efforts, the Eagles could not overcome the Royals' aggressive play in the second half. Top scorers for Reinhardt included Brasen James with 17 points followed by Nekhi Fisher, who added 13 points. Their contributions underscored a tough game where the Eagles tried to rally back but fell short.
Other notable performances came from players like Tee Williams and Donovan Pearman, each adding 9 points to the total. Tucker Lowe was able to connect on two three-pointers coming off the bench for the Eagles, but the game belonged to the Royals, who locked down the home AAC win. The shooting percentage for the Eagles was way off their season average, shooting only 33% from the field and 69% at the free-throw line.
Leading scorer Nate James had an off night only scoring one three-pointer, which was a contributing factor to the loss. He is currently averaging 17.3 points for the Eagles.
The Eagles will need to put this loss behind them quickly and start to concentrate on how to right the ship in February. They are hanging onto the ninth spot in the AAC, which does keep them in the AAC Tournament standings - but they are trending downward with a tough January record. The team has seven games left in the regular season, with all of those being AAC games. The Eagles need to get on a good February run to move back up the standings and make some noise heading into the AAC Tournament.
