Eagles Come Up Short in Second Half Roller Coaster
Waleska, GA - In a high-stakes AAC game at The Brown Athletic Center on Wednesday evening, the Reinhardt Eagles faced a tough challenge against the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs, ultimately falling with a final score of 78-90. Despite a spirited effort, the Eagles couldn't bridge the gap after trailing 41-45 at half-time.
The first half saw the Eagles have a slow start and go down by double digits, but, they fought their way back to narrow the lead to just four by the halftime break. Injuries to starting guards Brasen James and Donovan Pearman had Coach Newton giving significant minutes to backups as he searched for a combination that could make a dent in the lead. He found the answer in both the first and second half as the Eagles would go down by double-digits in both. The Eagles could never breakthrough in the second half after going down by nineteen in the final ten minutes in the second half. A late run pulled the game to just eight points, but that would be as close as the game would get as the final seconds ticked off the clock.
Nate Jones led the scoring for Reinhardt with an impressive 25 points, followed by Tee Williams, who contributed 16 points along with 6 rebounds and a block. Williams was 8 for 8 at the free-throw line. Additional notable performances included Tucker Lowe and Nekhi Fisher, adding 11 and 10 points, respectively. The team struggled to regain control as the Bulldogs maintained a steady lead throughout the game, a key factor in the Eagles' inability to secure a win.
Looking ahead, Reinhardt aims to bounce back in their next game against Columbia University, scheduled for this Saturday in Waleska. The Eagles, currently 8-9 overall and 5-5 in the conference, are focused on improving their standing and ending the season on a strong note. There is plenty of time left in the season to make a run for the top half of the AAC standings, but the Eagles will need to make the most of their final ten games.
