Brasen James Sends Montreat Road Game to Overtime
Waleska, GA - In a heart-stopping AAC battle at Kimmel Arena in Asheville, the Reinhardt Eagles faced off against the Montreat Cavaliers on Saturday evening. Despite a strong start and leading at halftime with a score of 45-38, the Eagles fell short in the overtime period, losing with a final score of 102-93 to the Cavaliers.
The Eagles played gritty throughout the game. Nate Jones led with 20 points, followed by Derrick Brown with 16 points and nine rebounds, who contributed significantly to the team's efforts. Brasen James also stood out with a powerful display, scoring 14 points and securing 10 rebounds. James' highlight moment came late in the game, when he tied the score at 81 with a crucial "and-one" play, extending the game to overtime.
In the overtime period, the Cavaliers jumped out to a significant lead and never looked back. They were able to keep the lead around ten to twelve points in extra time sending the Eagles home with the AAC defeat.
Nate Jomes is averaging 18 points per game for the Eagles, just slightly behind Tee Williams, who is scoring 18.8 per game.
Despite the loss, the Eagles demonstrated their resilience and fighting spirit. Multiple players contributed valuable plays, including Tee Williams with 13 points and Nekhi Fisher adding 11 points. Guards Tucker Lowe and Blake Seitz both helped the Eagles' efforts, scoring 8 and 7 points, respectively. Lowe currently leads the Eagles in both field goal percentage and three-point percentage, hovering around 54%.
The team's overall record now stands at 8-8, with an AAC record of 5-4. Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to face Tennessee Wesleyan in Waleska on Wednesday night and another home contest against the Koalas of Columbia on Saturday.
