Reed's Twenty-Three Help Eagles Extend Win Streak to Three
Waleska, GA - For the first time this season, the Eagles have a streak going. Tonight's AAC win over Kentucky Christian moves the current win streak to three games and keeps Reinhardt moving in the right direction in the AAC standings. Reinhardt has had a rocky start with ups and downs this season, but things seemed to be falling into place at the right time for Coach Newton's squad.
The Eagles won 78-65 over the Knights, which moves them to seventh position in the AAC. The top eight teams make the conference postseason playoffs so the Eagles must keep things going in this direction. Right now, Reinhardt is only three games out of the fourth spot and they have ten games remaining to push their way up the standings.
If you watched the first ten minutes of the first half, you would not think that Reinhardt was going to have a good night because they were only able to put 10 points on the scoreboard. Kentucky Christian had a thirteen-point lead midway through the first half, but the Eagles would battle their way back from the hands of shooting guard Darrien Reed. Reed took the lid off the basket in the last part of the first half and got the Eagles moving. He would end up with 16 points at the halftime break to lead the Eagles. The Eagles would be trailing at the half by six, 43-37.
In the second half, the high flyers would get things going for the Eagles. Nate Louis and Brasen James picked things up where Reed left off at the break and made their way to double-figure scoring. They would be helped by "Mr. Consistent" Nate Jones who made it to double figures as well. Nate Louis and Brasen James had 14 each, and Nate Jones put in 13 to help the Eagles!
Reinhardt finally caught the Knights around the fourteen-minute mark and they never looked back. The two teams would trade leads until the final five minutes when the Eagles tightened up on defense and started to pull away. They were able to make their shots and hit free throws and walk away with another AAC victory!
Center Jared Russo pulled down 10 boards for the Eagles and point guard Fred Adams dished out 10 assists.
Next up for the Eagles is a Monday matchup with Bluefield. Game starts at 5:30 pm.
