Eagles Pick Up Win at Point, 44-17!
West Point, GA - Reinhardt Football pushed their current win streak to four games and their fifth win of the season. The Eagles are currently ranked #23 in the NAIA and need to stay among the top 24 teams in order to make the postseason playoffs. The Eagles were able to walk away from this one with a 44-17 win!
It appeared that the day might start out tough for the Eagles when Taylor Jackson lost control of the opening snap and gave the ball up to Point inside their own 25-yard line, but the defense would step up to hold Point to just three points and that is all the scoring the Skyhawks would do until the 4th quarter when Point added two touchdowns. At that point in the game, the outcome was basically decided.
After the initial fumble, the Eagles would go on to score on the following drive when Jackson hit Tyshun Jordan for a 4-yard touchdown pass. The extra point bounced off the upright keeping the game, 6 to 3. The Eagles would not look back as they scored two more times in the second quarter.
David Friedberg would get on the end of a Taylor Jackson pass for a 10-yard score early in the second quarter. Friedberg had 3 catches for 27 yards and the score for the Eagles versus Point.
Luis Morris scored next for the Eagles with just one minute remaining in the first half. His 7-yard run would cap off an 8-play/80-yard drive that drained the clock in the first half. The Eagles went into halftime with a good 20-3 lead.
After the half, Wide receiver Tyshun Jordan would get on the board once more with his second touchdown of the game. The score came from a 64-yard pass and run from Jackson putting the Eagles up 27-3.
The defense would get the next score which basically put the game away for the Eagles. Riley McKee intercepted a ball at the 31-yard line and ran untouched into the endzone getting his first career touchdown.
Alex Hardy, who had a great day on special teams besides the first extra point, hit a 25-yard field goal with nine minutes remaining in the game and then the last score for the Eagles was a 3-yard punch from Jackson adding to his great day on the field.
The drive where Jackson scored took about five minutes off the clock securing the game for the Eagles.
Defensively, the Eagles had a good game holding the Skyhawks to 100 yards rushing and 197 in the air, but the best statistic was keeping Point off the board after the first field goal. Keon McGee led the Eagles with 5 total tackles and 2 pass breakups. Joining McKee with an interception was safety Kellen Neal who also had 4 tackles in the game. Gabe Helton also had an interception that he returned for 18 yards.
Next up for the Eagles is Homecoming with the Buldogs from Untion visiting Waleska, GA. The game is scheduled for a 1:30 pm kick-off at Ken White Field.
