Eagles Rolled Past the Knights on Homecoming
Waleska, GA - It was a big day for the Eagles' offense at the 2022 Homecoming Game. The Eagles entertained everyone that made it out to Ken White Field on Saturday by putting up 43 points. St. Andrews started out strong, but the Eagles' offense and defense were just too long and by the time the second quarter rolled around, the Eagles hit the gas pedal and left the Knights behind.
Hunter Arters would lead the way for the Eagles going 9 for15 and throwing for 315 yards. He had 5 touchdowns on the day plus one rushing touchdown. Navarie Solomon was on the end of 3 of these touchdown passes gaining 132 total yards receiving and 4 total catches. Devyn Collins had the icing on the cake on the final touchdown from a lob pass from Arters which Collins took 70 yards to the house in the fourth quarter. Louis Morris had another big play in the second quarter catching a 10-yard pass crossing the middle of the field from Arters. Morris made a few moves and then turned it up the sidelines to go 61 yards for a touchdown.
Arters rushing touchdown came early in the third quarter when he took a quarterback keeper around his big offensive tackle Sam Stout to score just on the other side of the pylon. Arters was showing that he had Coach Pobolish's offense down and was using the run and pass to keep the Knights wondering what hit them.
Besides his long fourth-quarter reception run, Devyn Collins had 111 yards rushing in the game on 17 carries. Collins is having a tremendous season for the Eagles and often is asked to touch the ball upwards of around twenty or more times a game. He is the leading rusher in the conference and no doubt one of the best running backs in all of the NAIA.
Defensively, the Eagles had the Knights confused and wondering how they were going to move the ball. The Knights did have a few good drives early in the game and actually had a 6-3 lead in the first quarter. That lead would not last long and the Eagles' defense put a stop to the run game which stopped the Knight's offense. Jalen Everett, Jalen Cannon, and Kenneth Lowery all had nice games stopping the Knights. Everett led the way with 10 total tackles (6 solo), Cannon had 8, and Lowery had 7 respectively.
Orlando Gandy Jr. and Vertez Shorter both followed with 6 tackles a piece. Keyvionne Whitlock had 6 tackles as well, but also added one interception to lead the Eagles. Jon Perry followed with 5 tackles and 2 sacks.
Overall, the Eagles had a really good game and showed why they are the league's favorite to win the conference. They definitely have some issues to work through the rest of the way, but they should be able to make a lot of noise in the playoffs. The special teams had a few issues today, but they have been really good this season and have time to work through the minor mishaps from today's game.
The Eagles will be back at home next week with Point University. It should be a tough game for the Eagles, but definitely. one they can win and keep adding to their AAC totals. The Eagles won the first matchup 24-14 earlier in the season so the Skyhawks will be aiming to get revenge. The game is at noon on Saturday, November, 5th.
