Eagles Football Puts Up Big Numbers Against KCU
Waleska, GA - Reinhardt Football picked up its first official AAC win of the season on Saturday at Ken White Field. Although they have played two other conference teams so far this season, the Eagles were playing their first conference game against Kentucky Christian.
The Eagles did not waste any time getting points on the board as Devyn Collins crossed the endzone with just a minute and a half off the clock. This was the first of three touchdowns on the day for Collins who also racked up 130 yards on 22 carries. Tyress McKey was next in line with 9 carries for 56 total yards. The Eagles were able to get 286 rushing yards total in the game.
Moments after Collins' touchdown, Hunter Arters got into the act by scoring on an 8-yard run putting the Eagles up 12-0 early in the game. Arters would have a big day running Coach Pobolish's offense. He was able to throw for 232 total yards connecting 3 times to Navarie Solomon for 78 total yards. Arters' long pass of the day was a 34-yard pass to Kish Wright. Arters threw one touchdown pass in the game to Javarsia Meadows. Meadows scored his touchdown about halfway through the second quarter putting the Eagles up 19-17. The Eagles would get one more score just before the halftime break on Collins' second touchdown run. The Eagles looked great going into halftime with the score of 26 to 7.
In the third quarter, the Knights of KCU would march the opening drive right down the throats of the Eagles getting them back into the game and pulling the score closer to 26-14. The Eagles would answer right back from a 13-yard touchdown run by Tyress McKey.
Collins would score his third goal next just before the third quarter starts. Louis Morris would get the final touchdown for the Eagles which would wrap up the game, 47-21.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Eagles had a pretty good day keeping down the Knights. John Early would lead the team with 6 total tackles. Jalen Everett and Kenneth Lowery followed close behind with 5 tackles each. Jon Perry had a big sack in the second half that help out the game away for the Eagles.
The defense did give up two drives that Coach Blue would like to do over. in both instances, the Eagles committed personal fouls that happened after the play was dead and extended drives for the Knights. Other than those two drives in the second half, the Eagles' defense did a pretty good job limiting Kentucky Christians' time on the ball to just around twenty-five total minutes in the game.
The win for the Eagles gave them an opening-round win in the AAC and the final four games on the regular season schedule will be against AAC opponents. Next Saturday, the Eagles will be on the road at Bluefield in Virginia. To finish out the schedule the Eagles will play St. Andrews on Saturday, Oct. 29th which is the Homecoming Game. Point and Union will round out the schedule for the Eagles on Nov. 5th and November 12th.
