Eagles Football Extends Winning Streak Against St. Andrews
Laurinburg, NC - Reinhardt Eagles Football were visiting Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent, St. Andrews, on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles made the most of their trip to North Carolina winning big, 35-9. Both sides of the ball had really good games where the offense put up the numbers needed o take out the Knights early and the defense did their job at keeping them off the board.
1st Quarter
The Eagles were able to put 14 on the board in the first quarter and this would be all that was needed to take down St. Andrews who only scored 9 total points in the game. The defense only allowed one field goal in the first quarter from St. Andrews' second drive of the game.
Reinhardt was able to score on their first and second drives of the game. The first score was on a 35-yard run by Tyress McKey, who was able to get in the endzone with just over two minutes into the first quarter. The second touchdown would come from a 17-yard pass from QB Hunter Arters who connected with David Friedberg for the second week in a row. The first quarter would end with a score of 14-3.
Second Quarter
Jon Perry and the Eagles' defense only allowed one score in the game, which came in the first quarter (field goal). The only other score would come from a fumble by Reinhardt at St. Andrew's ten-yard line. A Knight would scoop up the fumble and raced 90 yards for the score. This would be St. Andrews' only score of the game. Perry would end up with six tackles in the game to be among the leaders for Reinhardt. Joining Perry with six tackles were Keyovione Whitlock, and Kenneth Lowery. Whitlock would also have the Eagles' only interception of the game.
Reinhardt would get the ball back after the St. Andrews' fumble recovery and score. Devyn Collins would have a short run to expand the Eagles' lead to 21 to 9 with a little less than three minutes left in the half. Collins had a big day running the ball. He was given 20 attempts running the ball coming in just shy of a hundred-yard rushing day at 93-yard total.
The Eagles would enjoy a 21-9 halftime lead
Third Quarter
The third quarter would not be as eventful as the previous two quarters as both teams were unable to put the ball past the goal line. There were several punts in the quarter and a turnover each by both teams which helped in the teams not scoring after possessing the ball for several minutes each.
Fourth Quarter
The fourth quarter would be all Reinhardt as the Eagles would get two more scores to end the game. Devyn Collins would get his second touchdown of the game on a one-yard run after the Eagles shaved five minutes off the clock by putting together a fourteen-play drive. Collins and Louis Morris would be the masterminds behind the action with Collins having eight carries. Morris would have 3 carries on the drive helping the Eagles move the ball down the field.
The last touchdown would come from another short run by Tyress McKey with just about five minutes left in the game. McKey would run the ball around 9 yards to get the final score for the Eagles and give them the game 35 to 9.
