WALESKA, Ga. – Devyn Collins scored four touchdowns and set a new program record with 208 yards (on 22 carries) to propel the eighth-ranked Eagles to a 45-0 win against the Royals of Warner (Fla.) on Saturday afternoon inside Ken White Field at University Stadium.
Collins broke the 175-yard record that was held by two players (Terry Berdin in 2018 versus Union (Ky.) and L.J. Stegall in 2014 against Cumberlands (Ky.)).
Reinhardt finished the game with 441 yards of offense while holding the Royals to just 122 yards and no points.
"I want to congratulate our football team on a victory today – it doesn't come easy – also want to congratulate Coach Blue, our defensive coordinator, on pitching a shutout; his first shutout of his career as a defensive coordinator at Reinhardt. I thought defensively from top to bottom at all three levels we came ready to play fast and furious. We got a big game today from Devyn Collins, who broke a school record with 208 yards on 22 carries. He ran the ball how we know he is capable; saw the holes and hit them with a full head of steam. He also contributed four touchdowns as he was the workhorse today, and really provided the spark our football team needed.
I was a little disappointed by our performance in the second quarter. We missed some throws and dropped some balls that should've been easy completions. We will bounce back next week against a tough opponent in Campbellsville University. Super proud of the kids and the coaches in the effort they put forward to get this win."
Bryce Burgess opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown on the first drive of the game for an early 7-0 advantage. Less than three minutes later, the score was pushed to 14-0 after Billy Hall found Navarie Solomon streaking down the left sideline for a 73-yard touchdown pass.
Collins found the end zone for the first time just seconds into the second quarter after he broke multiple tackles, drug a defender five yards, then slipped away and ran down the middle of the field en route to a 66-yard touchdown and a 21-0 lead.
He would later score three more times in-a-row from two yards out, one yard out and four yards, respectively.
Reid Schratwieser made it 45-0 on a 31-yard field goal with 3:37 to go.
Hall finished the game with 115 yards passing.
Kenneth Lowery had six tackles on defense, on that forced four sacks – two by Vertez Shorter. Keyovione Whitlock added an interception that he returned 73 yards deep into Warner territory.
The homestand continues next Saturday against Campbellsville (Ky.) at Noon.
