Â
WALESKA, Ga. â" Reinhardt football imposed its will on Bluefield (Va.) Saturday night at home, as the 20th-ranked Eagles exploded to a 35-0 halftime lead before coasting to a 45-14 win at home inside Ken White Field at University Stadium.
Â
Reinhardt (5-2, 2-0 Mid-South Conference) dominated the contest from start to finish, scoring three first-quarter rushing touchdowns while the defense put the clamps down on the Rams' offensive attack.
Â
Otis Odom got the fireworks started by taking a handoff to the left side and racing to the end zone from 56 yards out on the opening drive for a 7-0 lead in just over two minutes of action. About five minutes later, Trevae Cain would plow his way into the paint from four yards away, before Montralius Mosley made it a three-score game with a 20-yard touchdown run with 4:35 remaining in the first quarter.
Â
The Eagles opened up the scoring in the second period through the air after Billy Hall found a wide-open Devyn Collins on a 56-yard touchdown toss. The momentum for the hometown squad would continue about four minutes later, as Reinhardt capped off a 95-yard drive with a M'Calun Lanier score from a yard out for a 35-0 lead at the break.
Â
Bluefield would put its best play together to begin the third quarter and get into the end zone for the first time on the evening after Xavier Freeman broke through the defense on fourth down for a 35-yard touchdown run up the middle.
Â
The Eagles would immediately respond and go 63 yards in under two minutes as Cain scored again, this time from six yards out.
Â
The Rams got back on the board early in the fourth quarter on a short touchdown pass but couldn't get anything else going the rest of the way.
Â
Alex Hardy finished off the scoring with a 44-yard field goal late in the contest.
Â
Reinhardt gathered 457 total yards in the win, including 339 on the ground (297 at the half). Individually, Cain led a group of 14 ball carriers with 75 yards and a pair of scores. Hall was 6-for-10 passing for 118 yards and a touchdown to go along with 34 yards rushing.
Â
Defensively, the Eagles surrendered just 207 total yards to the Rams after the visitors had no answers the entire first half. Reinhardt put pressure on the quarterback all evening, registering four sacks, including one by JT Graydon in his return to action from injury.
Â
Seth Fallen had a team-best six tackles (two for-loss) and a sack. Four additional players notched five stops each.
Â
It's back on the road for Reinhardt next Saturday, as the team travels to Point (Ga.) in another night game at 6 p.m.
