Mantooth's Base Clearing Double Gives Eagle a Lift in Thirteen Innings
Mt. Vernon, GA - It took thirteen innings, but the Eagles picked up their seventh win in a row to start the 2025 season. Reinhardt lost the 9-8 lead in the bottom of the ninth, sending the game into extra innings. It took thirteen before the Eagles put up five runs to win the game. The final ended up 14-9, Eagles over the Brewton Parker Barrons.
Ben Medley got the start for the Eagles and pitched 2.2 innings, striking out 3 Barrons. He did give up five runs in his innings. He was followed by five Eagles' pitchers, with Brock Weiss coming in during the third inning to take over for Medley. Weiss got in 2.1 innings and struck out three batters. The rest of the pitchers of the regular innings pitched one inning each. Brent Turley was first striking out one, followed by Mahoney, who struck out 2 batters and also gave up one run.
Tim Pate came in to pitch the eighth inning, striking out one batter. The Barrons were able to get one unearned run across the plate to bring the score to 9-8 Eagles. Logan Lynch came in the bottom of the ninth to try to finish out the game, but a Barron was able to tie the game on a left field homer and send the game to extra innings. Lynch would pitch the full extra innings. He gave up just three hits and struck out 5 total, but he did not allow another run to cross the plate.

The two teams went toe-to-toe the tenth through the twelth innings, but in the top of the thirteenth - the Eagles decided it was time to go home and put five runs on the Barrons. in the thirteenth innings, third baseman Cade Chamlee walked sending home Ethan Moore. Moore entered the game as a pinch runner for catcher Juan Pablo Morales who walked earlier in the inning. One of the biggest plays of the game was by former Barron player, Jacob Mantooth, who was able to get on the field against his former team. Mantooth doubled with the bases loaded clearing the bases and putting the Eagles up 13-9. The game was basically over at this point, but Rober Phelps hit a sac fly to left sending home Mantooth for the fourteenth run.
Lynch came in the bottom of the thirteenth and closed the game out and got his second win of the season.
Nash Crowell had a standout game for the Eagles hitting 2 for 5. He scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs in the game. Chamlee also had a good game at the plate hitting 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
The Eagles will start their AAC play this Thursday and Friday. The first game is on Thursday at 3 pm at Ken white followed by the doubleheader on Friday starting at noon.
