Phelps Grand Slam Opens the Game Up for Eagles Win!
Waleska, GA—Although it was the middle of winter, Saturday's baseball game between the Reinhardt Eagles and the Midway Eagles at Ken White Field was like a spring day. The Reinhardt Eagles extended their win streak to five games by winning 12-2 in the seven-inning shortened game.
The Eagles went with Tate Deering to start this second game of the series with Midway. Deering only saw a little trouble in the first couple of batters but quickly settled down to control the game for the rest of the way. Midway was able to get two across the plate in the first, and that would be it for the day. Deering was able to strike out eight batters in his six innings and only gave up 3 hits.
Redshirt sophomore Ryan Mahoney got to see his first action of the spring season as he came in to relieve Deering in what would be the final inning of the game. Mahoney only gave up one hit and got the rest of the Midway batters out with the calm and collective Reinhardt defense. Reinhardt's defense has had only a few errors this season. They have been solid in this early season giving good backup to this solid Eagles' pitching staff.

Reinhardt's offense got going in a big way during the bottom of the second inning. Newcomer shortstop Robert Phelps cranked a Midway pitch over the left-center wall with the bases loaded. This immediately got Reinhardt back in the lead after going down 0-2 in the first inning. Phelps was 1 for 3 on the day with a run scored and four RBI's.
Rightfielder Barry Eiseman, who had the final throwout at the plate in Friday's game, went 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Eiseman is showing that he is going to be a consistent piece in Coach Jonathan Burton's lineup.
Second baseman Cade Chamlee had a great game as well going 2 for 4 scoring 2 runs. He equaled Phelp's 4 RBI game and also had the final RBI that ended the game early for the Eagles. Chamlee tripled to the hole in leftcenter field and easily brought home Adam Harris who was on first base.
Also notable was Centerfielder Adrian Vargas who had a triple in the game.
The Eagles will go again Sunday afternoon with a noon start at Ken White Field to try to sweep their second series of the early season. Come out and cheer on the Eagles as they get this spring season going.
