Eagles Drop Midweek Single with Middle Georgia
Waleska, GA - Reinhardt Baseball is putting together one of the best seasons in the history of the program and they have a lineup to go deep in the NAIA playoffs, however, recent setbacks at Bryan over the weekend and the midweek single with Middle Georgia sends a message that the team needs to refocus and get back on track. They control their destiny by finishing first in the regular season conference, which will get them an automatic bid - but they have to finish the schedule out strong.
Tuesday's single with Middle Georgia seemed to have some carryover from the weekend series where they lost 2 out of 3 to Bryan College on the road. The team had eight total errors in the game which has been unheard of with this group. They went through eight pitchers as well with various levels of success throughout. Middle Georgia had a breakout third inning scoring three runs against the Eagles, however, the game was not as close as the final score indicated. Reinhardt lost 8 to 5 against the visiting Knights which will be a game that they will quickly put behind them to focus on the AAC series with Bluefield coming up this weekend.
Adam Christopher got the start for the Eagles and he had a decent out giving up only two hits in his two innings. The Knights did score two runs on Christopher, but the game was very much anyone's game at that point as the Eagles would score a run in the bottom of the first from a Jarrett Burney home run.
The third inning is where things got out of hand for the Eagles as they gave up 4 runs in one inning. Reinhardt only gave up two more runs the rest of the way with decent pitching performances from Blake Rogers, Brock Weiss, Eli Clotfelter, Hal Steljes, and Evan Venable. Weiss was the highlight of this group striking out 2 batters and not allowing a hit or run in two innings. Below are the final pitching numbers from the game:
Reinhardt (GA)Pitchers

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
ADAM CHRISTOPHER (L, 0-1) | 1.0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
COBEY ALLISON | 1.0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
RYAN MAHONEY | 1.0 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
BLAKE ROGERS | 1.0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
BROCK WEISS | 2.0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 |
ELI CLOTFELTER | 1.0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
HAL STELLJES | 1.0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
EVAN VENABLE | 1.0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Totals | 9.0 | 10 | 8 | 7 | 3 | 5 | 2 |
Offensively, the Eagles had the one home run early from Burney and the bats went quiet until they could get to the Knights bullpen. Reinhardt had six straight scoreless innings until they got back on the board with a run in the bottom of the eighth and then added three more in the bottom of the ninth to pull them within three runs of Middle Georgia.
Nash Crowell led the Eagles going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, one double, and one run scored. Dylan Lewis came in late to pinch hit and was one for one with an RBI. Jacob Profit was 2 for 2 in the game with one stolen base.
Reinhardt will have to let this game go and start to focus on the important AAC series with Bluefield which has the single game on Friday beginning at 4 pm and then the doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon. The Eagles only have the Bluefield series this weekend and then a series with CIU the following Thursday and Friday to finish out their schedule. If they can win both series, they will be crowned the top team in the AAC for the regular season - but there is much work to be done before that can happen. Come out and support the Eagles this weekend so they can take one step closer to the title.
