Crowell's Three Home Runs Help Eagles Take the Series at Milligan
Milligan College, TN - After giving up a game in the bottom of the ninth on Thursday, Reinhardt rebounded by getting both games of the doubleheader. Game one was a blowout victory for the Eagles winning 16-8, but game two was slightly closer with a score of 8 to 4.
GAME ONE
In game one, everything was clicking for Reinhardt both offensively and defensively. The bats pick right back up after having a slower day in game one on Thursday. They had a total of 17 hits which scored 16 runs. Leading the way for the Eagles was power hitter, Dylan Lewis, who had five hits in 6 at bats. He had 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored and had 2 doubles in the game.
Also having great games at the plate was Nash Crowell and Matty Maurer who both went 3 for 5. Crowell had a home run to go along with one RBI and 3 runs scored. Maurer had a double in the game with 3 RBIs and one run scored.
Defensively, the Eagles started with Andrew Herbert who pitched a phenomenal 4 and two-thirds innings and struck out 7 batters! He did not allow a run in his innings and seems to be starting right back where he left off in his NAIA All-American season last year before the injury. It is only his second start this season after coming back from rehab, but so far he is showing the AAC that he is in top-notch form.
Issues started popping up in the sixth inning where the Eagles gave up 3 runs and then they gave up another 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th. Hunter Paulsen came in to relieve Herbert but ran into some trouble with three runs scored and he was only able to pitch two-thirds of the inning. Cobey Allison was called up next and he did get in three and a third innings recording two strikeouts, but he gave up eight hits and five runs in his innings. The good thing is the offense had already done their damage for the game and gave a big cushion for the pitching staff to work within the game. Eli Clotfelter came in to record the final out for the Eagles and finalize the win.

GAME TWO:
In game two, Nash Crowell was the spotlight player, hitting two home runs in the game - making it 3 total for the day. He was 3 for 3 at the plate with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
In the lead-off spot, Will Underwood went 2 for 2 with a double. Also, notable offensively was Tucker Zdunich was 2 for 3 with one RBI. Unlike game one, the Eagles had to rally from behind to get the second game win. Milligan had a good second inning scoring 4 runs and the Eagles were able to get one run each in the second and third innings. This had the Eagles chasing some of the game to try and secure the second game and series win. The sixth inning was the difference maker for the Eagles to take game two which had Marcerio Allen, Dylan Lewis, Zdunich, Adrian Vargas, and Crowell all contributing to the six-run inning. The offense once again gave some cushion for the pitching staff to work with to get the second win of the day.
Pitchers Alex Galvez, Eli Clotfelter, and Brett Allen would make sure the Eagles came out on top in this one. Galvez got the start and had a good first inning, but the second is where things got messy. The only four runs of the game were scored in this inning putting the Eagles in a hole temporarily. Galvez was able to strike out 3 Buffaloes and keep the hits to just 4 in his two innings of work.
Clotfelter came in and cleaned things up pitching three and a third innings and not allowing a run. He recorded 4 strikeouts and only allowed 2 hits from the seventeen batters he faced. It was the difference maker in the game and gave a shot for the offense to get their bats going in the sixth inning. Brett Allen came in during the sixth to face the last two batters and then finished out the seventh of the seven-inning game. Allen faced 5 Milligan batters and struck out 2 without giving up a hit or run.

The Eagles got back on track after Friday's narrow defeat and were able to take the series with Milligan. The team is currently 15-8 overall and 10-2 in conference which has them in the top spot! Pikeville is a close second with an 8-3 record. If the bats can stay consistent all season long, they have the pitching staff to make a lot of noise in the AAC and in the NAIA this season. Herbert is a weapon that the team needed to get back and he strengthens this pitching staff into one of the best in the AAC.
The team has the rest of the weekend off before returning to Waleska for a single game on Tuesday with Faulkner University. Next weekend's AAC series will be on the road with the Union Bulldogs.
