Long Balls from Zdunich, Crowell, and Lewis Leave No Doubt
Waleska, GA - The hot bats for Reinhardt Baseball continued on a Monday afternoon game at Ken White Field. Tucker Zdunich, Nash Crowell, and Dylan Lewis all homered to put the game away early in a runaway win against the visiting Fighting Saints of St. Francis (Il), 19-4.
Zdunich homered in the second which scored Lewis. For the day, Zdunich was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. He also had a double in the game.
Lewis homered next in the third which scored Marcerio Allen. Allen had reached base previously on a triple that he hit off the right-center field wall. Lewis ended the day with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored with two doubles to go with his home run. Lewis was 3 for 3 from the plate. Allen had a great day as well with his triple and another double going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs.
Not to be outdone by Lewis and Zdunich, Nash Crowell got his homer in the fifth inning which scored Zdunich. Crowell was 2 for 4 on the day with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. He had a double to go along with his home run.
Several other Eagles had good days at the plate including Jarrett Burney who went 2 for 4 with a double and one RBI/one run scored.
The story of the game was the offense that put the game out of reach early and scored in the first five innings of the shortened seven-inning game, however, the pitching staff did its job by holding the Fighting Saints to just four runs.
The only real trouble the Eagles faced defensively was in the fourth inning when the team gave up four runs, but the game was just about out of reach at this point. Evan Venable got the start for the Eagles and he was able to pitch three solid innings before having a few issues in the fourth, however, some fielding issues created the chances for St. Francis allowing the three runs to score in the fourth.
Hal Steljes came in to relieve Venable in the fourth inning and he was able to get in 1.2 innings recording a strikeout and no runs scored. Eli Clotfelter and Adam Christopher came in to finish out the final two innings and did not allow any runs by the Fighting Saints. Christopher had a great performance in the final inning by shutting down the side and finishing the game out in style. This was Christopher's first game back in an Eagle uniform after being out recovering from elbow surgery since January, 2023.
