Reinhardt Splits at Truett McConnell on Ddoubleheader Day
Cleveland, GA - Reinhart Baseball was able to get the split on the rare Friday doubleheader day. The Eagles came up short in game one losing 11-7 to the Bears, however, they rebounded in game two to win in a 5-0 shutout.
Game One
Eli Clotfelter started on the mound for the Eagles in game one and he was able to get in two innings. After pitching a good first inning, Clotfelter started to get into trouble giving up four hits and four runs which put Reinhardt down 4-0 going into the third. The Eagles made a comeback in the top of the third chipping away the lead with three runs. Jacob Profit, Lance Dockery, and Dylan Lewis all scored in the inning with Lewis' run coming on a solo home run bringing the Eagles back into the game, 3-4.
Jalen Hernandez came in the bottom of the third to relieve Clotfelter and pitched a great inning. Hernandez had trouble in his second inning of work as well which was aided by a few errors, a hit batter, and a wild pitch. In total, six runs were scored by the Bears in the bottom of the fourth.
The Eagles would still make a small comeback again in the fifth through seventh innings scoring a run in each. Lance Dockery scored once more in the fifth, Luiz Mendoza scored in the sixth, and Adrian Vargas scored in the seventh curring the lead to 10-6 Bears.
Reinhardt gave up one more run in the bottom of the seventh but then picked up another run in the top of the eighth setting the score at 11-7 Truett McConnell. Lance Dockery scored in the eighth for his third run of the game. Dockery led the Eagles in hitting going 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. Adrian Vargas finished with 3 RBIs in the game to lead the Eagles.
Despite having a tough fourth inning, Hernandez settled down and pitched pretty good the rest of the way where he recorded 6 strikeouts total. He finished with 7 total hits against him and just one run scored in the fifth through eighth inning.
Game Two
In game two, the Eagles controlled the game from start to finish. Jamel Rookard scored a run in each of the first, third, and seventh innings to lead the Eagles in runs scored. Dylan Lewis used his hot bat for another home run for the day bringing his total to 3 to lead the Eagles in home runs. Three Eagles have two home runs each - Lance Dockery, Tucker Zdunich, and Nash Crowell. Zdunich had a good second game going 2 for 3 with a season batting average of .425%.
Alex Galvez started on the mound for the Eagles where he was able to pitch 3.1 innings and recorded two strikeouts. He started the zero hits and Brett Allen came in to relieve Gazvez and did the same. Allen only gave up one hit in this 3.2 innings and he recorded 2 strikeouts as well. The combination of Galvez and Allen proved to be too much for the Bears in the second game of the doubleheader.
