Eagles Split with Cavaliers in Doubleheader
Montreat, NC - Eagles lost game one and won game two.
GAME ONE
In game one, Ethan Foley would get the start for the Eagles and he was able to pitch five innings. Three of the five innings were great for Foley, but he ran into trouble in the third and fifth, which gave several runs to the Cavaliers. Foley gave up a home run in the third inning, which allowed Montreat to get back into the game with the score 3-2 Reinhardt. The big inning that caused trouble for Foley was the fifth where he gave up two home runs and four runs on the board for Montreat and tied the game six all.
Parker Miller would come in for Foley in the bottom of the fifth to close out the inning. Foley would finish with 7 strikeouts and 8 hits in his 4 and 2/3 innings. Foley had great first, second, and fourth innings where he did not allow a score, but it was the home runs that would cause problems for him.
Miller would pitch 3 and 1/3 innings striking out one and only giving up 3 hits, however, 2 of the hits were home runs. The home runs occurred in the seventh inning and were back-to-back homers. The three runs scored from the homers gave the lead back to Montreat where they eventually won 9-8 over the Eagles.
The offense did plenty to get the win for the Eagles, however, they were not able to keep scoring after the sixth inning when they needed more runs. The first six innings were solid for the Eagles' offense where they would score in all of the innings besides the fourth. Dylan Lewis got the Eagles started in the first inning by hitting a three-run homer, which scored Nash Crowell and Lance Dockery. Dockery would double in the second to score Tucker Zdunich putting the Eagles up 4-0.
Jarrett Burney homered in the fourth to give the Eagles a commanding 5-0 lead and things look like it was going the Eagles' way in the first game. Zach Rabe hit a solo shot over the center field fence in the fifth to add to the Eagles' total. After the top of the fifth, the Eagles had the lead, 6 to 2.
After the runs scored in the bottom of the fifth, Montreat would tie the game momentarily. Reinhardt added a couple of more runs in the top of the sixth from a few errors by Montreat and it appeared the Eagles would be able to get the win in the first game, however, the Cavaliers had their good seventh inning and the Eagles could not score any more the remainder of the game. Reinhardt would give up game one, 9 to 8. Miller would take the loss for the Eagles in the game despite pitching well at times.
