Bio

Evans Nichols was hired as the 4th Head Golf Coach for Reinhardt July 7th 2020. Going into his 5th year, he has served as the head coach for the men’s and the women’s teams. He also currently serves as the 1st Vice-President on the NAIA Men’s Golf Coach Executive Committee.

PATH TO REINHARDT

From 2009 to 2013, Nichols was a four-year letter-winner for the Blue Devils at Marietta High School. Nichols earned the Harry Vardon Award for having low-stroke average on the team during his Junior and Senior year at MHS. As a junior golfer, Nichols competed in GSGA, USGA, SJGT, and HJGT junior golf tours.

TIME WITH THE EAGLES

Nichols started school at Reinhardt University in the Fall of 2013 and after red-shirting the 13-14 season, he started playing for the Eagles in the Fall of 2014 under Director of Golf Ken Dixon and Head Coach Dan Mullins. During his 4 years, he played 86.5 rounds with a 76.2 stroke average posting 12 scores at par or less and a 68% finish percentage. In his playing career at Reinhardt, his best score was 67 (-4). After a playoff, his best finish was 1st place in the Point Spring Invitational at Callaway Gardens. From 2014 to 2018, the Eagles posted the highest team win percentage in school history finishing 1st in 12 of 41 tournaments including winning the 2015-16 NAIA Direct Qualifier and AAC Conference Championship.

He served the 18-19 season as a graduate assistant at Reinhardt while finishing his Masters Degree in Business Administration. In August 2019, he served as the assistant golf coach for the men and women at Reinhardt where he assisted in all aspects of the program including recruiting, scheduling, practice, and on-course coaching.

Nichols was named the head coach of his alma mater in the summer of 2020. He acquired a tall task starting the 20-21 season at the height of the COVID-19 global pandemic. However, the 20-21 season was a memorable and historic year as the Eagles earned their first-ever “At-Large Bid” to the NAIA Championship at TPC Deere Run. Hunter Clay soared highest of the eagles at nationals posting a record-breaking 72-hole score of 288 (+4).

Following the 20-21 season, the players earned the Eagles their 3rd NAIA Direct Qualifier and Conference Championship title and Nichols was awarded AAC Men’s Golf Coach of the Year. At the 2022 NAIA Men’s Golf Championship, the Eagles finished off a historic year with Brooks Gineris, Dalton Henson, Jack Haller, Chanc Willis, and Hunter Clay posting a record-breaking 72-hole team score of 1174 (+38). Again, Clay soared higher than the rest in 2021-22, following up his 2-win season by breaking his own 72-hole record at nationals with a 283 (-1). From the Fall of 2022 to the present, the Eagles have been working toward returning to the top of the AAC and returning to nationals to beat the lone-standing 72-hole team scoring record.

Evans and his wife Leah reside in Marietta, Georgia, and have 2 children.
