Bio

Jason Hitzeman joined the Reinhardt University coaching staff prior to the start of the 2021-2022 season, as an assistant coach overseeing sprints, jumps, hurdles, relays, and multis. During his 3 seasons at Reinhardt, Coach Jason’s athletes have broken 22 school records, earned 20 AAC All-Conference awards, and won 5 AAC individual championships. He has also helped 12 athletes become NAIA National Qualifiers during his tenure. Prior to Reinhardt, Coach Jason has had many coaching jobs in both individual and team settings, including every level from middle school to adult recreational runners. He holds USATF Level II coaching certifications in both throws and sprints, hurdles, & relays. Additionally, he is a Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Level I certified coach, focused on recreational distance runners.

Jason graduated from Defiance College in 1996 with a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences. Competitively at Defiance, Jason was an All-Conference distance runner for the Yellow Jackets cross country and track & field teams. He was named an Academic All-American award in 1995. After graduating, he earned Masters degrees in Physiology from Ball State University in 1996, and in Kinesiology with a concentration in Coaching Education from Georgia Southern University in 2016. He is currently in the process of completing a PhD in Sports Management with a concentration in Sports Sociology from Troy University. In addition to his coaching duties at Reinhardt, Jason is a Professor of Kinesiology & Wellness at Georgia Highlands College, with 26 years of college teaching experience.
