October 12, 2019
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WALESKA, Ga. – Reinhardt volleyball got back on the court early on Saturday morning to take on the Lions of Bryan (Tenn.), and the Eagles again had to stretch the game to four sets as the visitors avoided a sweep in a 3-1 decision at home (25-9,25-19,23-25,25-14).
The wins continue to roll in for the hometown squad as Reinhardt holds a record of 21-2 and 14-0 within the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
The positive outcome at the Brown Athletic Center is also the 11th-consecutive victory in their comfortable confines for the Eagles in 2019.
"Today was very similar to last night, as we had some kids get the opportunity to be in some important situations in set three," head coach Brian Goodhind said. To Bryan's credit, they kept grinding and grabbed set three. We went back to the lineup that worked in sets one and two, and the girls closed out the match hitting over .300. I thought Courtney Pressley had a rough set three, and late in set three, she went back in and made some big plays for us; very proud of her for showing some resilience there and coming through for the team. At the end of the day, all we did was go 1-0 and now we are focused on going 1-0 on Tuesday. To God goes all the Glory. #WePlayFor11."
Reinhardt came out on fire in the opening set and hit .556 en route to a 16-point win to start off the match. The matchup was blown wide open after the set was tied at 4-4 following an Eagle run of 12-0. Goodhind's club would continue to put up multiple offensive spurts to claim the 1-0 lead with ease.
Stanza two was back-and-forth and the game was tied at 14 before Reinhardt began to pull away. The hosts scored five out of the next six points – and nine of the next 11 tallies – to up its advantage to 23-16. The Lions would try to mount a comeback with three-straight points to pull within four, but the Eagles went up, 2-0, with three scores in-a-row.
Reinhardt seemed destined for a 3-0 sweep before Bryan clawed its way back from multiple disadvantages to take a three-point lead at 20-17. The Eagles would show heart and regain the upper-hand with four-consecutive points, before the Lions would eventually claim a win with back-to-back scores to take the game by two.
Another big stretch of scores put the hometown team in the driver's seat of stanza four after netting 11 out of 13 points midway through the set after being down early on. The hole would be too big to overcome for Bryan as Reinhardt coasted to another AAC triumph.
Brittany Taksas hit .444 (6-of-9) from up-front while the Eagles' offense was widespread throughout the lineup. Shelby Glawson (11) and Tessa Colden (10) paced the scoring with double-digit kills.
Erinn Marroquin gathered 26 assists, while on defense, Reinhardt totaled 79 digs. Individually, the trio of Mar Vives (18), Carlee Baxter (14) and Colden (13) all hit the 10-plus plateau.
