WALESKA, Ga. – The Brown Athletic Center continued to be kind to the Reinhardt volleyball team on Friday night after the Eagles stayed perfect at home with a 3-0 triumph over Montreat (N.C.), 25-20,25-16,25-14.
Tessa Colden had a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs as she paced a well-balanced attack for the hometown team as it improved to 13-2 overall (7-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference) and four-consecutive inside its own building to begin the year.
"Tonight, we got to play a team I very much respect, Coach Kristy of Montreat is one of favorite human beings in the world," head coach Brian Goodhind said. "I think that program is so blessed to have her. They have great, character kids, and as you saw in set one, they are also very talented. Our team struggled with some focus out of the gate. We had a game plan and it wasn't being followed. The girls locked in and were able to really shut down Montreat's offense in sets two and three (held them negative both sets).
Tessa Colden player a huge roll tonight with a double-double and we needed every kill and every dig she provided us. In the end, all we did is go 1-0 and we will need to be solid tomorrow morning to go 1-0 again. To God goes all the Glory."
The Cavaliers came out with a solid game plan as well and swung for the fences in the opening set, pulling out to a 13-10 advantage before the Eagles went on a 10-2 run, including finishing the scoring spree with seven-straight tallies.
The two squads would alternate blows until Reinhardt finished off the set compliments of Shadaisha Summerall.
The Eagles would get stronger as the matchup continued, holding the opposition to fewer points in both stanzas two and three – in large part because of hitting -.240 and - .111, respectively. That kind of defense helped Reinhardt go substantial stretches of scoring and pull away from Montreat on multiple occasions.
Summerall (three total blocks) would score on six of her 11 chances, while Colden was 14-of-23.
