GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The Eagles continued their stranglehold on the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) on the road Tuesday evening, as Reinhardt flew away from the Golden Tigers of Brenau (Ga.), 25-11,25-13,25-21, en route to the team's sixth-consecutive victory.
The Eagles (12-2, 6-0 AAC) continue to tweak their lineup throughout matches and find quality depth up-and-down the roster as they look to build in-game experience for most of their players.
"It was a good night for us as we got to play a few different lineups and get a 3-0 win," head coach Brian Goodhind said. "Set three we went to yet another lineup we've never done before. Our hope is these moments are going to help us as we continue moving forward. Onto Friday and trying to go 1-0 again. I am hoping we have a great crowd on Friday; we are doing free pizza that night to try and help fans come out – all the Glory to God."
The hometown team exploded out of the gate and put this one to bed early with a 9-0 run to begin the matchup, including three aces by Erinn Marroquin. The Golden Tigers would get within six on multiple occasions but wouldn't pose a series threat to Reinhardt. The second set was much of the same after the Eagles used multiple runs to open up a big lead and eventually double-up Brenau (20-10).
The final stanza of the night provided a challenging outcome after a multitude of players got on the floor in a different capacity than normal. The toughness of the team, however, was present throughout the game as Reinhardt overcame a Brenau scoring spree to tie the set multiple times and even take a one-point lead twice late.
Now down, 21-20, the Eagles showed heart by scoring the last five points to sweep the opposition thanks to four-straight Golden Tiger errors.
Carlee Baxter had a double-double with 15 assists and 11 digs in the win.
