WALESKA, Ga. – The Eagles came back home to the Brown Athletic Center on Tuesday night and were able to get a multitude of lineups on the floor for valuable in-game experience against Allen (S.C.) in a 3-0 sweep (25-18,25-17,25-14).
The hometown team is now 8-2 and 2-0 within the Appalachian Athletic Conference after experimenting with different personnel groupings against the Yellow Jackets in the league triumph.
"First, I want to give a lot of credit to Allen… They've gone through some adversity and hats off to where their coach has them," head coach Brian Goodhind said. I hope our girls know how blessed they are. Allen just played only its second match of the season after getting a coach right at beginning of the semester. Their energy was great tonight and they competed hard; that says a lot about that coach and the character of those girls. Our girls I thought played well and we are working together right now on some new stuff and with that is going to become a learning period. They truly are working hard and I'm proud of them. I believe in these girls and I think they are going to continue to grind, improve and become one of the best teams to ever wear an RU Jersey.
Mar Vives and Kelley Adkins had 27 digs between the two of them, Erinn Marroquin and Carlee Baxter had 39 assists between the two of them (a 13 per set average). Savanna Davis and Emily Charbonneau had 17 kills between the two of them – those two are sophomores. Shadaisha Summerall played one set and all she did was hit .750. Brittany Taksas hit .667 and Izzy Diaz played one set and hits .500. Tessa Colden only gets 10 sets tonight but hits .400 and Cheetara Bing hits .273. I mean, for not our smoothest volleyball, we did pretty well. Our mindset is to go 1-0 and we did that; now we are focused on going 1-0 against Bluefield. To God goes all the Glory."
Reinhardt combined to hit .268 in the three-set victory, but 14 errors on the night helped Allen stay around and gain momentum in each individual stanza. It wouldn't last long, however, as the Yellow Jackets also fired 15 miscues of their own.
