Eagles Take Flight Against the Cavaliers
By Erinn Marroquin
BLACK MOUNTAIN, North Carolina - Women's soccer continues to prove to be the dominating force in the AAC as they traveled to Montreat to take their final road win of the regular season with a 2-0 win over the Cavaliers of Montreat (NC.)
This victory improves the Eagles win streak to 13 matches in a row as well as continuing their undefeated record in conference play. The first half did not show any movement on the scoreboard despite the Eagles having an impressive 7 shots compared to Montreat's 2.
Reinhardt established their strength in the second half with an even better stat line of 13 shots and 7 corner kicks. One of these corner kicks got RU their first goal of the night as Ryelyn Wells completed a corner from Lauren Akemon in the 53rd minute to put the Eagles on the scoreboard.
The Eagles decided they weren't done and added one more goal within minutes of the first. Ryelyn Wells displayed her strong presence in the Reinhardt offense yet again when she passed the ball to Lidia Herrera who beat a defender in the box and blasted the ball into the back of the net.
The RU defense remains one of the strongest in the conference as they allowed only one shot on goal that was saved by none other than Caroline Johnson.
The Eagles will play their final regular season match at home this Saturday afternoon at 3:15 pm against the Knights of Kentucky Christian (KY.). Join them in celebrating the seniors after the match for their impressive season and careers with RU.
