BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Ryelyn Wells netted three first-half goals to help the Eagles claim their first victory on the season in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) shutout against the Rams of Bluefield (Va.), 5-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Wells' dominance, in addition to a Mary Kate Williamson score at 19:17, helped Reinhardt improve to 1-2 on the season (1-0 AAC).
"Good to start our conference schedule with a win," head coach Andy Kaplan said. "We played all 21 players 45 minutes, so it was a complete team effort. I am excited by the growth and development our team is showing."
The hometown squad got on the board early and often in West Virginia, scoring three times in the first 19:17, and four times by the 28th minute – which came off an assist from Lauren Akemon to Wells.
The Eagles were dominant in every phase of the contest inside the East River Complex and they accumulated a 40-0 advantage in shots (12-1 corner kicks).
Individually, Wells led the way with eight attempts. Mila Bodin was next in line with a half-dozen shots, while Lidia Herrera added five more.
Bluefield made 13 saves in defeat.
The team is back home on Sept. 15 against Tennessee Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
