WALESKA, Ga. – Fifth-ranked Reinhardt put on a show at Ken White Field at University Stadium Wednesday night in an overwhelming 24-5 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory over Montreat (N.C.).
The sixth-straight win gives the Eagles a 6-1 record on the year and a perfect 5-0 start in the AAC. During the streak, Reinhardt is averaging 21 goals per game while allowing only five.
"We continued to improve our team chemistry as we took on a good Montreat team," head coach Roy Reynolds said. "Our offense has gelled with a number of players scoring on the night.
"The defense continued to be stingy on the draw and defensive end."
Reinhardt would tally 12 goals in the first ten minutes of play before the visitors could notch their first of the day. The monstrous first half ended with a score of 15-2.
The Eagles tacked on three more goals in the first six minutes of the second half and coasted the rest of the way to a runaway victory over the Cavaliers.
Reinhardt outshot the conference foe, 35-8, scooped up 13 more ground balls (27-14) and forced six more turnovers (17-11) in the dominating performance.
Six different Eagles scored two goals or more in the win – Anna-Marie Gazzo (5), Shelby O'Neil (4), Caroline Copenhaver (4), Morgan McGhee (3), Brook Villhauer (3) and Ashley Steele (2).
Gazzo scored on every single shot attempt she took on the day (5), and she also added four assists and picked up two ground balls.
AAC Offensive Player of the Week, McGhee, picked up five ground balls, controlled four draws and dished out two assists in addition to her three goals.
Goalie Emma Sindersine had a relatively easy day in the net due to Montreat only getting off seven shots on-goal; she saved two of them.
Reinhardt will be back in action on the road this Saturday against Brenau (Ga.) for an AAC battle.
The match begins at Noon.
