By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WALESKA, Ga. – No. 6 Reinhardt improved to 2-0 within the Appalachian Athletic Conference after it left the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan in the dust compliments of a 23-1 final score inside Ken White Field at University Stadium on Friday night.
The Eagles (2-1) again put on an offensive display in both halves, opening up a 12-0 advantage at halftime and then getting quite a few players their first career scores in the second period – and a 22-0 run in more than 56 minutes of action.
"We played a complete game today and won big versus a tough TWU team," head coach Roy Reynolds said. "Both sides of the ball, as well as the draw game, came together and allowed several freshmen to take the field and get their first collegiate goals."
Anna-Marie Gazzo was a prime focus on the offensive side as she led the hometown squad with five goals and three assists in the blowout win. Morgan McGhee and Caroline Copenhaver added three goals apiece, and the duo was followed closely by five teammates registering two scores each in the triumph.
In total, 10 Reinhardt student-athletes made it into the scorebook.
The Eagle defense was impressive on this night as well, as they forced 26 turnovers and didn't allow a goal until mop-up duty with less than four minutes remaining on the clock.
The hosts grabbed 44 ground balls on their home turf and were paced by five Reinhardt players posting five ground balls individually.
Jessie Landers made a pair of stops in 56:15 of action to earn the shutout victory.
The Eagles dominated ball possession with 16 draw controls as well.
The club now has a few days off in preparations for a showdown within the NAIA top 10 as No. 7 Life (Ga.) comes to town on March 18.
It all gets started at 7 p.m.
